We just cracked the screw cap and poured this without bothering to decant. It may have opened up a bit more with a quick spash decanting, but it wasn't really necessary. Dark garnet in color, bordering on purple. Pretty cherry cola nose and like flavors, with just a touch of plum skins. Nothing much in the way of earthiness to suggest an element of "place" (it's from little Chalone AVA), but a pleasant red spiciness on the finish keeps it from seeming too one-dimensional. Nice acidity. Alc. a touch high at 15.1%, but integrated as well as can be expected. I was in the mood for a big, brash, unsubtle PN, so it fitted the bill. If you're looking for subtlety and nuance, or a pairing with something like salmon, look elsewhere. We enjoyed it as a stand-alone without food as we spent the evening watching the latest mailbox arrivals from Netflix. $44 on the wine club.

Opened one for lunch today. 'Tis a big, brash, bootiful PN that makes no excuses nor asks for any idenity help. This is powerful juice from the 1st sip to the last gulp. I had it with Marinated brisket, no BBQ sauce, some delightful homemade cole slaw and pumpernickle. All came together like gang-busters. Sexy juice that could maybe improve with another 1-2. 92/90.
