2003 St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc (Napa)

I tasted this unoaked wine at a local shop a few weeks ago and enjoyed it, so I bought a bottle the other day to go with dinner tonight. Lots of juicy lime and grapefruit on the nose, with a good mix of tropical fruits, grapefruit, lime, and mineral on the palate. I was very surprised and impressed by the mineral part. The wine went well with Scallops in Orange Butter, Zucchini Gratin, and a Red Leaf Lettuce Salad with evoo and herbs. Alc. 13.5%, $12 (Sendiks in Mequon)

I sure miss Fall in Wisconsin. We seem to skip that season here in Georgia.

You've discovered my favorite S.B. from California. Bucko was also impressed with it (an earlier vintage) at a wine competition. When tasted blind he thought it compared favorably with a New Zealand S.B.
I heard the 2002 vintage was a bit grassier than the 2001. Sounds like the 2003 is weighing in as more citrusy than grassy. I will look for some at the grocery store.

I agree, WOW, this was probably the best California SB I've had so far, though I must admit I tend to avoid them (except at tastings). I'll definitely get more and stock up for the winter.

Dan, I've been back in Milwaukee for less than a month, but it already seems like I've never left. The fall has started early here this year, and many golden leaves are on the ground already. Fall is my favorite season, though, so I don't mind. I lived in Alabama for a couple of years a while back, and never got to see much of a fall--or winter, for that matter.

Dan, did your brother manage to get you some of the Las Rocas you liked?
