Rudd Napa Sauvignon Blanc 2004

About $35 in stores, tasted at Masraff restaurant in Houston (great food, and great mark-ups on wine - this was $63).

Very nice wine. Good citrussy acidity, maybe grapefruit. I think I detected a note of wood which I could have done without but it was understated and the wine still well-balanced and dry. Very good, although I think it has a flaw: too expensive, I can think of cheaper, more enjoyable SBs that also do not have the wood. Still, I am glad I got to taste it.

Not sure I've ever had the Rudd but I like St. Supery, Honig and Joel Gott among the less expensive domestic S.B.s. I tried a Silverado once that tasted like a toothpick barely dipped in wine (and Andrea Immer had recommended that winery for unoaked S.B. so they either have two distinct styles or changed their style after her recommendation came out.)

Thraz, have you always been posting from Houston? I was thinking you were posting from Philadelphia.

Yes, I am new to Houston (well this time around - I have lived here twice before). I've always liked Houston and was sad to leave it, but I really miss Philadelphia. I suppose it's better than being happy to leave though. Thanks for the SB recs.

$35 for an SB is outrageous, especially when you can drink lovely NZ SBs for 40 percent of that price.
