I was wondering if anyone has any tasting notes on this wine.

My husbands aunt loved the '03 Loring Clos Pepe Pinot I brought with me to Thanksgiving. I couldn't find anything around here from the Clos Pepe vineyard, so I thought I'd give the Gary's a try.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry CG haven't opened any of my 03 allocation yet. Am still sucking on the 02s and 01s. WW

Here's what Jim Laube at Wine Spectator wrote last week:

LORING Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands Garys' Vineyard 2003 90 Points

Intense and tightly focused on a juicy core of ripe, racy, zesty wild berry and blackberry fruit. Excellent balance, depth and concentration, with the tannins in the right proportion. Finishes with high-toned berry fruit.

Here's what I wrote in my mailer:

This wine is a bit earthier than any of my previous vintages of Garys', but it still has that "sweet fruit" thing going for it. I like it about the same as the 2000, but not quite as much as the 2002. My grade: "A-"

I've opened quite a few of these over the past 3 months, and I'm starting to like it more than when it was first bottles. It's "grown" on me to where I like it as much as the 2002.

Compared to the Clos Pepe, the Garys' will usually seem "sweeter", and will show more cinnamon and asian spice notes on the nose than the Clos Pepe.

Thanks Brian!

I ended up bring a bottle of AP Vin instead. I planned on opening the Loring Gary's for NYE, as well as a Glenora bubbly.

Good call on the AP Vin Garys'! I opened a bottle of Andrew's wine yesterday... it's a really pretty wine. I think his 2003 Garys' is a bit more high-toned (fruit wise) than mine, and it's drinking incredibly well right now.
