2003 Rosenblum Rockpile and Richard Sauret

The Rockpile is simply one of the best wines I have ever had. 94 in WS and $29 at Kroger. It lives up to the hype.

The Richard Sauret is nearly as good, 92 WS and $20.

They are clearly cut of the same cloth.

The Rockpile was my favorite from Rosenblum until I tried the Harris Kratka. I still have one Rockpile bottle left which I will probably enjoy sometime this summer (not sure which vintage--maybe 2001).

you're correct. tampa bay definitely is not "the South."

as for those rosenblum's, i agree completely. my brief notes on them from my 4/27 column:

'03 Rosenblum Suaret Vineyard Zinfandel ($23): This top zinfandel producer has never disappointed me. This bottling delivers very good aromas of cola and berries, with the acidity and a bit of fine tannin to back it up.

'02 Rosenblum Rockpile Road Zinfandel ($31): My first note on this gem reads "Remarkable." This wine is loaded with aromas and flavors of deep zinberry fruit and bacon. It has great intensity and I almost want to call it jammy, but there is structure in support of the tons of fruit. If you like zins, treat yourself to this one.
