April 14th...the day Lincoln was shot, the night the Titanic hit the iceberg, and the day yours truly was born. Just another disaster...

See, there is some redeeming value to this date. Happy B-day, and many more! What bottle is getting uncorked for this event?

A very Happy Birthday to you, Georgie. That certainly merits plucking one of the best from the cellar.

Happy BD there Georgie. Guess that means I'll have to open a bottle and help you celebrate! WW

Find out which Champagne they had aboard the Titanic, get a bottle of it, and celebrate your day, and the fact that you are alive.

I would say find out what Lincoln drank, but the man hardly ate or drank anything...

Happy BD, Georgie! Just keep telling yourself, another BD sure beats the alternative. We'll look for complete and detailed notes on the celebrations.

Just a quiet celebration planned this year. Had a big blow-out event last year for my 50th. We went out for a nice dinner yesterday, but tonight all I really want is a pizza. I haven't had pizza in a year! What kind of wine should I pick up on the way home? And thank you everybody for your good wishes. I do have lots to celebrate...I received some very good news about some medical tests I was worried about. Quite a relief. Maybe I should get some champagne! Happy 51st, Georgie! I would suggest searching the forums for "pizza" but I think you'd get about 800 matches! I might go for a nice Nero d'Avola or Primitivo myself. But hey, since you love Port, why not go spend more than you usually do on a bottle? See what the stuff is capable of.

Oh, not to worry...a colleague just gave me a bottle of Ferreira 1994 Vintage Porto which I'm sure she spent way too much money on. I'm used to the under $20.00 stuff! So we'll definitely crack that open for dessert!

Treat yourself to some new teeth -- you don't want to look like WW.

Georgie, forgot to add my happy birthday to the bunch.
Abe's wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, was a first cousin to one of my great, great grandmothers(or was that one great?). Since she had some less than admirable qualities (spending too much money, perhaps henpecking her husband), I'm not sure I should admit to the family connection. However, some recent biographers are a bit more sympathetic towards her. You have to feel sorry for her losing two sons to childhood illnesses and seeing her husband killed at her side. Also, she was from Kentucky and had relatives on the Confederate side so it was difficult for her during the Civil War. Many northerners suspected her of southern sympathies and southerners probably thought she was a traitor to the cause.

I don't think Mary Todd Lincoln was a walk in the park from what I've heard. Maybe she's just gotten a bad rap over the years. Here's what I came up with for my pizza dinner. Salice Salentino seems to be the wine of choice. Can't wait!
