A nice journeyman Zin, with good fruit, nicely balanced. With peppered turkey sandwiches (provolone, green leaf lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sprouts and herbed mayo on whole wheat). Alcohol is 14.9%, $13.89 at Costco.

Picked an '01 for $16 in Bangor today. Wanted something to go with grillpanned (54 degrees here today in rain) pork chops in the last of our mole sauce from 05/05. It measured up in spades. So well rounded we didn't even notice the 14.9% alcohol. Simply lovely with enough pizazz to quench the heat. There is still some around, so look for it.

54F with rain sounds wonderful, IK. We had 90F w/60% RH here today. A nice Gulf breeze moderated the heat somewhat.

I've still got some of that Zin hiding out... Nice juice.

Well, it's supposed to get all the way up to 65 F today and stay there all weekend. May even get some glimpses of something called sun. Time to fire up the grill and the smoker. Looked at my tomato patch this morning. The chives are doing fine, but the rest of it is still a swamp. Probably two weeks before it is dry enough to work. Yikes!

Our tomato plants are about 2 feet tall now. And have a few small tomatos hanging. I picked my first banana pepper the other day to eat with a salad.

We have planted our first herb garden this year. And something has eaten all our celantro but did not touch the lettus.

Beautiful day today, temps close to 70. Got six tomato plants (Yellow Pear) and three parsley plants (Giant Italian)in the ground. Of course that meant getting the hose out of the basement, turning the water on, and getting the wheelbarrow out the shed. I hope it all survives it going down to 44 tonight. At any rate, with the lilacs peeking out, it just might be spring!

Picked our first tomato today. Wasen't quite ripe, but we leave for the outerbanks tomorrow, and it would be bad by the time we get back. We should have some ready to pick when we get back though. If'in the neighbor keeps our garden watered for us.

I'm taking a good assortment of wines to drink, including a 2002 Bogle Old Vines Zin, I've never tried this one before. I went back to Harris Teeter to see if they had got any more of the VME Cab. But they had not.
