I've purchased a few zins in my continuing education on this varietal...but have not been home to open them...so Popped one today.

Color: Mediume to Dark garnet
Nose: Berry some & dark fruits
Palate: Wine felt not together when first opened with some strong stemminess and a very hot finish. This went alway after decanting for 30 minutes. Now was reaasonably supple on entry with fruit front moving to a wood middle followed by strong acids and tannins at the very end. Mid length finish.

I suspect that this wine needed some time to come together a bit more but was pleasant enough. $18.99 per bottle. 14.9% ABV.

I posted a similar note on the '03 back in Nov last year. It might come around a bit over the next year, but won't bet the ranch.

Thanks! I've gone back to read the other post. I'll go search for an 02 or better...something else with a reasonable $$.

Good luck finding the 2002. Wine Spectator put it at around 13(?) on their top 100 list, and I haven't seen it in stores since. The 2002 old vines ($28 and a bit better) is still around at two stores in my area, but the 2002 sonoma county is long gone.

I bought a case at $13. I found it to be aveage last year, but just had a bottle last night and it has improved. At the price I paid, I'd say it's a decent value.

Can't get the 2002 Sonoma Cty, but we have the 2003 on the shelf. It also comes with the Stelvin closure. We do have a few bottles of the 2002 Sonoma Cty Old Vine left, though.

GAD, Did you buy a case of the 2002 or the 2003?
