Color - Purple/red leaning more to purple
nose - strong fruit. Black cherries, plums, and even a little chocolate
taste - pretty good. not as strong as the nose.
legs - thick and slow like Mo Vaughn.
finish - nice 15 sec. finish. a lttle hot. tannins were smooth.

$8 - very good value. 88 pts

Popped one of these after choking on a disgusting zinfandel. Almost opaque black purple. Lush shiraz nose of blackberry liquor and spice. Rich flavors of blackberry, blueberry, chocolate, pepper and creamy oak. A lush Aussie fruit bomb without excessive oak...deep, dark and delicious. $10 and 14%Alc/vol. A case buy for sure.

here's my post from 9/28/01 on the 2000 vintage. and from what i've heard about the 2001 aussie vintage in general, i can't wait to buy the new bottling. not too late to hop onboard the paringa bandwagon folks!

"($9.99) deep ruby color, with just a hint of purple. blackberry, raspberry, blueberry and shiraz spice. this is a thick and juicy wine. it coats the tongue and has a very long finish - expecially if you factor in the price. both wine spectator and wine enthusiast rate this a best buy. i agree. and i get the feeling the silky tannins will carry it for a while. i can't wait to see what this will taste like in 2-3 years.
bottom line: there were 14,000 cases of this wine made. go get some; you won't regret it. for reference, here's how i compare it to the 2000 Buckley's Shiraz i recently posted on (and tasted them side by side tonight). i like the buckley's and would buy more. but i'm stopping at the wine store on my way home from work monday and buying those four more bottles of the paringa i saw left on the shelf. in fact, if they have a case in the back, i'll take it.

ladies and gentlemen, this one is a keeper."

2003 Paringa, Individual Vineyard, South Australia, Shiraz ($9.99 Costco, FL). Still a great QPR and a lovely Shiraz. Matched this Easter with lamb burgers and salad with Blue Cheese dressing.

My favorite inexpensive Aussie shiraz also.
