1998 Gianni Gagliardo, Dolcetto D'Alba DOC ($13). As usual the fragrance was very powerful. Lots of red fruit upfront, smooth tannin across the palate, and a very nice finish. Had to look out for a little sediment in the bottle as we did for a '98 CDR Village last night. Don't know if this comes from storing bottles upsidedown before we find a place for them in the rack. At any rate it married nicely with sauteed ham slices in cream sauce and spinach.

This wine is the liquid definition of the color purple. This time we ran the whole bottle through a dioxane free coffee filter. Made the wine much more enjoyable. Don't have an idea why so much crud gathered in the bottle in just a little over two years.

Married nicely with grillpanned smoked pork chops.
