Saw this on sale--10.79 compared to 11.99--and decided to give it a try. It is from the Cotes de Francs region--which is one of the outlying regions which surrounds St. Emilion on the right bank. Upon opening the first thing I noticed was the obvious presence of oak in the nose. After letting it sit for a few minutes, the first taste was primarily of oak and various dark fruits including plums. With time the flavors started to come out to reveal restrained blackberry and mulberry, red plums, and even a bit of tea or tobacco in the background. Once it opened up it was really a nicely balanced wine, with the oak much being much more restrained. I've had another wine, Ch. Puyregard (sp?), from the same producer, Thienpont, which I also enjoyed. I would think if you saw either of these you could try one with confidence that you would be getting a well-made wine. If I had to choose I would go with the Les Charmes because it had just a tad more complexity to it.
