I figured that I deserved a nice one today.

This is a St. Emilion Grand Cru and the colour was a very nice, very dark ruby/purple color.

The nose had a smooth oak with mint and something else pleasant that I can't put my hands on. It has a big, fleshy feel, the tannins begin rather significant here. After some (like hours) in the decanter, it subsided a bit to show very nice layers of chocolate, fruit, cherry and a nice hint of coffee at the end. Really nice wine with a really nice structure. Good long finish. I think this one will age just nicely.

75% Merlot, 15% Franc, and 10% Cabernet.

TE I agree on the Pontet. Lovel;y wine but does need to grow some whiskers. Will probably start checking out the lesser growths next month. Love the vintage. WW

wow, I totally agree that this wine needs some more time before it will show nicely.

I just couldn't resist today. Just resorted some wine for future consumption and some lesser growths are surfacing as well. The Grand-Pontet was not one of those but once in hand.....never laid down again. [img]http://www.wines.com/ubb2/smile.gif[/img]

IK, imaging if the Falcons and the Steelers win......it will be an all PA battle....who will the state root for?...

I'm rooting Falcons if that is the case.

Maybe a little too much wine TE. The Falcons lost. That's the bad news. The good news is that the Philadelphia team called the Eagles won. Whether of not the other Pennsylvania team will also win is possible, but looking somewhat doubtful at this moment.

No doubt the 2 best teams yesterday won. The Suns finally broke their 6 game slide. Think Jackson mite be the answer to keeping Nash healthy and rested. Looks like we'll have an interesting Super Bowl. Have to pull for N.E. as I have lots of friends in the Boston area. WW

This was my very last bottle (and officially my first orphan...I did not know I had any more of these). Brings back a few memories as this was one of the very first wines that got me more serious into wines. And it was a tough day,...kinda like the day I had when I first pulled the cork on one of these...frankly worse but that is only by levels. so yes I deserved this one too last night.

I love this wine. Not because it is the greatest wine, but on top of what I said above, it was a reasonably priced bottle from a great year. These are wonderful attributes to be had these days. And it is a decent bottle. Nose is still very atractive, bordeaux in nature, berries, fruit, tobacco, smoke, hint of graphite, and not overwhelming. On the palate, more blue and black fruits, earthiness, tobacco, more movement towards leather and other tertiary flavors but only starting. Medium plus body good smothness as it has shed more of its tannins, lovely structure. This is in a great place right now and I would drink them all if I had any left.

Nice little walk down memory lane.
