A keeper. 50/50 Cab/merlot. Not well known outside of France, but is available through Balzac. (that's one of the things I like about Balzac.)

Opened for about 10 minutes, opened up nicely over the next 15. Very nice wine. Can cellar for the next 7-10. Paid $33. That's right priced IMHO.

Y ou're right about this vineyard not being too well know outside of France as I've never even seen the name in print before. Haven't had any wines from the killer 2000 vintage that wasn't good. WW

You might want to check prices other places besides Balzac. I'm finding the 2000 Ch. Lacombe elsewhere for $22. It's about time that the Haut Benauge is producing reds with some merit, because traditionally it's been known more for the whites. The reds were generally sold simply as Bordeaux Rouge for a long time.

When I bought the Lacombe there was little or no comparison on wine-searcher unless I made a typo. Perhaps someone is unloading some bottles left on the shelf???

One reason that I like Balzac is that they are not flooding the market. I believe that its 2 a week. Every wine I've bought from them has been a winner. (The Paradigm is killer). Either they know what they're doing or we share a similar palate.
