Tasting of Great White Burgundies at Nantucket Wine Festival

It was raining buckets the Saturday of the tasting, but if you are indoors drinking fine wines, who cares about the weather?
Fred Ek was the presenter of these Corton Charlemagne and Le Montrachet wines from Remoissenet/Domaine Thenard. We had a glass of a nice Philloponat (sp?) champagne on arrival. Then on to the white burgundies. I found the Corton Charlemagne wines to be a little on the austere side but they were recommended as a less pricy alternative to the Le Montrachet. It was surprising how closed up the '99 and '95 Le Montrachet wines were compared to the '97 which was intense in both bouquet and flavors. The '97 was my favorite of the evening for approachability. It has the unctuous, oily character typical of some white burgundies.
