Tasted all of these last evening and must report that without a whale-of-a-lot of hoopla this 99 vintage is getting my attention big-time. The worst wine in the bunch was the Mondavi and I gave that sucker a solid 88. Have no earthly ideer where I can put any as my cellar looks like it's been used as a dumpster for cardboard boxes. I do know I'll try tho. WW

Bought a box of the Phelps today. Too derned good to pass and one of my favorite producers. Definately on par with the PR Rutherford. WW

WW!
Not sure what Phelps you were drinking since the bottle and vintage was not mentioned. Anyhow, the '99 Cab Sauv is pretty decent, don't you think? Actually, the Beauzeaux (98) is even better around the grill!

Hi Vin. If'n youse looks at the threads title it be 1999 Sterling (Diamond Mtn), Phelps(Napa), BV & Mon. I didn't put the Napa in 'cause it's their only release at this time. The Insignia will probably be out in the fall.WW

WW, the 1999 Insignia is out now, no? My store in NJ I think is selling them at $90 per bottle.

WW you're slipping. I've had the 99 Insignia in the shop for two weeks.

Hadn't been on Safari Jock till last Fri. As stated have no idea where I'll put the Napa. Haven't picked it up and just took count of my 2000 Bordeaux futures, and can say with complete honesty, I'm in deep DO-DO! WW

I'm with Hot on the who-pays-the-bills.

Even worse, my wine wallet is currently under house arrest through the end of July.

I make sure that CBs' 3 diamonds are at least 3/4th full of SWs' and she never pays any attention to the rest of the cellar. Whatta' guy Huh!? I tell her that There's no better SW than Ch St. Jean Sonoma, Jekel, or the Latour Chard at a hefty 8 per clatter. I've even introduced her to that lovely Pinot/Chard combo from Banfi called La Rime that she loves. What a great girl. WW

Yeah, and what a guy, WW. You're all heart!

I've been wonderin' when the RAD-style death sentence will be pronounced, and she cuts off the juice funds altogether. There are two times of the month that I dread around here, and bill-paying time is one of them.

Who dat? We're not bein' mean, WD! Just good ol' boys tryin' to keep peace in our lovelies' households (and dodge their brickbats when they get riled up!)

I used to be able to cut my own TDY orders, and I'd send myself to hell and gone about once a month, just to get out of Dodge. Now bein' REE-tired, I can't do that any more... gotta stay put and take my punishment.

I've avoided the bill trap by keeping my own checking and her having her very-own account. I never look at hers and she don' eye-ball mine. All bill paying is done by the weener out of his acc't to save her the time and effort. You guys said it.... "Whatta' GUY!" WW

I've always kept our joint account except for the year I was in 'Nam. That was the only year it was accurately kept up to date. Sigh!

When we were first married, the BW was a banker, so I asked her to take over our finances. She's done a great job. After a few years of having one checkbook and me pulling a check now and then, and recording its use on a scappy piece of paper (which I would frequently lose), we now use two checkbooks, but still on the single account. I just hand mine over with its carbons when requested, and coordinate with her before writing large checks. Then once a month I serve as bookkeeper, recording everything in Quicken. Pretty neat.

Ouch! Not quite a death sentence! I'm happy to have her--I'd be plumb broke if she weren't around, but with a much bigger cellar! (Hmmmm....)
