Opened this last nite. Wanted to compare with the Frei we had at the lovely Glenora. Deep ruby with a minty, dusty, spicy, black fruit nose. All came across on the palate along with a large dose of sediment. Have never encountered a bottle that had the staining this sucker did. From the shoulder down the side to the punt was a 2 inch wide swath of black. After a visit to the kitchen sink and a fast rinse I put the strainer-pourer on the bottle and tried again. Without the grit this is a lovely bottling with some black fruits that have rounded and the finish is definately a 4-lapper. This bottle must have been the last one filled from the last barrel to account for this much sediment. Lovely wine howm-so-ebberly. 90/92. 18 by the box. 14.4% alc. WW

Still got slightly less than a dozen left and are throwing the same amount of sediment as you describe.

That last sentence of WW's is too good a straight line to pass up, but I'm going to be good and not take it. Maybe Georgie might have something to say. After all she did have that bod in her car all the way to Newark Airport.

Noticed the huge opening WW left myself...
Have yet to met WW in person, so I'm going to leave it alone as well.
+ Any comment would go against several of my "4 agreements."

I think you guys are just jealous of WW's "bod." Well at least his liver, anyway.

I can't imagine ever being at the point where I'd be jealous of the Weener's bod (no offense meant, WW).

Popped one last night as I have about 6 left. This one was really on the downslide. MUCHOUS sediment and even more tannic than when young. Not much fruit and there was an acidic sharpness to the wine which was a little off putting. I let it sit for about 1 1/2 hours and it seemed to settle down a bit with a little more black fruit and hints of that toasted caramel sugar that the gallo single vineyards display. May open another tonight to see if this was an anomaly.

Opened next to last bottle for lunch today Drewski. Experienced the same amount of sediment as you but the only variation from my earlier post was the nose was more pronounced and there mite have been a slight lessening in the intensity of the fruit. Still an outstanding wine that is more than likely to be on the decline. Your bottle must have been atypical. WW

Popped one of these hummers last night. WOW, still holdin' on with classic black fruit and currant flavors, cedar box and tobacco hints. Very slight orange at the rim but youthful in appearance. This bottle threw much less sedement than other bottles. Still a very long finish with a bunch of tannins. Amazing.
