2004 Bollinger La Grande Annee Rose
The difference between the rose and the La Grande Annee rose is also significant. The regular bottle is great, lots of fun, fruity, energetic, and very very fresh. The La Grande Annee is altogether a different beast. It is much more muted on the nose, but more serious at the same time. On the palate, the wine comes together more like a white burgundy and an excellent one at that. It makes you look down the glass more and wonder. This one is one that you need a quiet corner for or else you miss all of complexities in the wine. I really enjoyed this.

Last time I had this, I only had two half glasses over four hours. Tonight I had the whole damn bottle to myself over four hours. I much prefer this later situation, even if there are good friends. We'll just open up more bottles.... ?

This is not a cheap champagne, one its a vintage and two its a rose, but at two bills, its is much cheaper than than others like Dom and krug but it performs extremely well. People looking for dense power might miss this. The WINE is a bit young and monolithic right now, but there is a very strong line of mineratlity. This is like drinking a burgundy. Taut and very fresh, complex in its own way, good fruit with everything in good balance. This will need a few years before I will open up another one but it is so enjoyable it will be tough to not touch them any more.
