A brace of Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne, 2000, 2004 and 2007

Sandrone makes this barolo from a blend of five vineyards which are located from East to West in Barolo. The Western vineyards produce wines with a bit more elegance more minerality while the eastern vineyards brings more depth, more fruit and more acidity for freshness. The producer thought that this trio would be an interesting look at three very different vintages

2000: which the producer himself said was not a very good vintage but is drinking well now, poking a bit at the 100 points WS gave the vintage. Color is slightly lighter than the other two, though all three have a slight brickish color in them, nose of cherry, tar, and oak, on the palate, much the same but a bit lean, a bit tart, and medium finish. While fair in quality, doesn't look like it will last the decades the barolos are famous for.

2004, tied for my wine of the night (along with the 2007 SAndrone Cannubi Boschis, and in fact I might prefer it slightly more. Powerful without hyper density, velvety, tough and tight right now, but elegant and not massive in any way. long finish and great persistence. Floral aromas persist to give it a rather elegant framer the wine.

2007 Rose petals, fruit, much more forward, Impressive nose, very expressive, filling the glass and the air around it. on the palate the tannins are every noticeable, fresh but tight, slight. good persistence and length.
