Have been wrestling a slow deterioration of the 'puter for weeks, and finally decided this morning to re-format the hard drive and start over. Painful. Re-loading everything. It's all working OK except for email.... can't send or receive at the moment. Strongly suspect the Norton security package is at the root of all of these problems. Bear with me.

Have now re-formatted the hard-drive FIVE TIMES in the last few days, and re-loaded all S/W but the wine db's, which seem to be toast. Problem turned out to be my WIFI router on a slow roll-off to never-neverland. Now direct-connected the cable modem to the 'puter and all is well (thanks to help from a techie with Time-Warner Cable's "Roadrunner" service).

The REALLY good news: we're having shrimp gumbo tonight with farmer's market okra fresh from the farm yesterday morn! Dunno which wine yet.... thinking, thinking....

Settled on Francis Capolla's Rosso. Not a perfect pairing, but not bad either. Had preferred to have a Dolcetto, but found it cooked from "pre-chiller days" of the old storm cellar.

Agree, methinks an uncooked Dolcetto would have been spot on.

Hey, Georgie - What's wrong with okra? It's delicious and has a wonderful texture. Nothing like a nice vegetable stew (think ratatouille) with tomatoes, summer squash, okra, onions and garlic in a seasoned (thyme, tad bit of sage and chervil) chicken broth with a bit of hot red pepper flakes, and of course some wonderful white rice. Go past the veggie bit and add some prawns or better yet some crawdads. You gotta live a little, girl.

Finished off the gumbo tonight with a Kim Crawford SB (not the greatest IMHO but passable). Danged sorry to see the gumbo go (burp).
