Hope he stays on boat in Turkey. Don't want any Turks out there to take offense, but it is getting less and less safe there for Yankees (or Red Socks for that matter).

Got home last night after traveling for 17 hours.ugg!had a wonderful cruise starting in Athens.The people are friendly and the Parthenon was amazing.next stop was olympia where the ancient games took place.this was also a wonderful experience.Spent the afternoon in a caf'e on the ocean. Had what I consider the best stuffed cabbage rolls and greek salad in my life.The local red wine was really tasty.It came in a caraf so no info but was great alone or with food.I would guess the alc. to be 12.5% cause I was able to drink alot without taking an afternoon like WW does on occasion.
Next stop was the Island of Santorini.Had no idea there were so many vineyards on this Island.the weather is harsh and windy.The vines grow close to the ground and look very stressed.Only able to drink the local sw and was not impressed.next stop was Epheseus in Turkey.The people here are quite westernized(very friendly).Must be all that tourist trade coming in on cruise ships.This was my most favorite stop..Great food,great red wine,Very flavorful alone or with food..stuffed pepers,stuffed grape leaves,various cheeses and vegetable salads.Was able to visit the home of the virgin Mary where she spent her final years and the ancient city of Epheseus.Was a major port as far back as 2000 bc.The amphitheater held 25,000 people.last stop was Istanbul turkey.I have never seen so many mosques in my life.I thought that Chicago had alot of Catholic churches.No comparison.Was a little scary because the moslems are still observing romadon. had a tour to the spice market and the grand bazaar and a boat ride down the waterway that flows into the Black sea. This was the busiest waterway I have ever seen. they say as many as 500 ships go thru a day.The cruise ship was wonderful with lots of great wine, food and a very small amount of a greek beverage called ozo,(oompa). Great to go away.Greater to come home to the good old USA.Hope you all can understand the notes. Spelling and grammer has always been a challenge for me.

Glad you had a chance to go there and enjoy the greek hospitality. I feel like its been eons since I was there but really only since May. BTW, when we were on Santorini, we feared teh cruiseliners that would bring people in by the thousands...we would literally run for the hills till youse people left [img]http://wines.com/ubb/smile.gif[/img] Lovely place though.

Hi and welcome to the board. I'm assuming that since you posted here because you want Greek sweet wines. If so, then look for Boutari Vin Santo which should be distributed in the US.

Stuffed grape leaves? Never heard of the such, (I'm still just a novice), interesting, I presume something rolled up in them, or are they chopped and used in the stuffing? and baked? Is this a dessert and are US grape leaves the same? Please ignore if this is a silly question. WP

WP stuffed grape leaves are called Dolmades and can have everything from lamb, veal , beef, rice, wheat, all marinated and normally baked. One of the great appetizers the good Lord gave us. WW ( Normally served with Greek lasagna called Patistis). WW
