Hi guys! I'm hoping someone can help me out. I am a 26 year old female who is wanting to start drinking wine, but I'm not sure where to start. I love sweet drinks, but I haven't been able to find a wine with a sweet/semi-sweet taste. I have found that most are too strong for my liking.

A friend of mine told me to try Yellow Tail, but I'm not sure if I would like it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of an inexpensive wine I should try?

Hi Tibette, and a warm welcome to the Wine Board. For a red wine look for a Lambrusco such as Reunite from Italy. For a white wine look for an off dry or flat out sweet Riesling, Chenin Blanc, or Muscat. Any retailer should be able to recommend one of these.

Once you get used to the sweet wines, and want to try drier but fruity wines, we can recommend those as well.

I would also suggest a German Riesling Kabinett which are inexpensive and also lightly sweet. As you may want sweeter, you can look for a Riesling Spatlese or Riesling Auslese in that order.

Another sweet wine to look for that is light and easy to drink is a bubbly from italy called a Moscato d'Asti. Look for 2007 releases as they are meant to be drunk early.

Hi Tibette and welcome to the board. See you're also from my beloved Phoenix. We've had an explosion of fine wine shops open here in the last few years. If you'll post the area you live in I can probably reccommend a shop that caters to new wine afficianados. WW

We call Sportsmans at 32nd st and Camelback the "Club". Great food at lunch, many wines by the glass, and a great selection of bottled bliss. WW
