What is the shelf life of a wine that is made for room temp and has been open? The wine that I have does have a screw on cap on it and would wonder if that makes any difference.

I open three bottles at once and have a glass a night from each. They usually hold very well for three to four days with no problem and can open into some wonderful wines. For longer try the frig. Now I don't do this with aged wines but I usually can't afford those.
I don't find that screw caps make a big difference in how that develop.

Be it red or white I would put the opened bottles in the door of the fridge. Take the red out a 1/2 hour or so before you want to drink it.

The door of the fridge is "warmer" than the interior.

3-4 days is normal. After that, I would cook with it or dump it.

Shelf life is variable, not only by type of wine, but even by brand and vintage. An easy way to get a handle on 700 or so of the best selling wines is to get the "2008 Wine Buying Guide for Everyone" by Andrea Immer Robinson. She gives the shelf life on each and everyone of them.

How does one end up with any wine left in the bottle?

My doctor said I can only have two glasses of red wine a day. So that means I get to drink a bottle of wine every other day.........

Used to be I never had any left over. Now I can't keep a bottle longer than two days.

I'm still laughing about the wino eating the grapes...... that was FUNNY!!

Either that or it means you need bigger glasses
