I feel stupid asking this but what is the difference between white wine and red wine? Please don't laugh at me

To make white wine you crush the grapes quickly after harvest, press for juice and ferment the juice. To make red wine you crush the grapes but you do not press them. You ferment them on the skins, pressing for juice after fermentation is finished. The color comes from the skins.

Hi newbie_T and welcome to the board. To expand on the venerable Foodies answer, he forgets that occasionally people don't understand there are Red grapes And White grapes. The normal white wines are made from White grape varieties and the reds From Red varieties. The color you see in red wines are as Foodie said is derived from leaving the juice on the skins until it absorbs that luscious color. Keep on asking until it clears up. Took me nigh onto 34 yars afore I unnerstoot all the jargon. WW
