2004 Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio

Fruity, simple, great with fish or chicken, about $10. This is the first one I have tried. It reminded me a little of a chardonnay, but less flavorful.

Yes, I found it at my local grocery store. I have been looking at it for a while, finally decided to try it. Its flavor is weaker than I had hoped for, but it was very drinkable.

BTW, if anyone is interested, I used to be "robr", but for some reason that password and username combo stopped working, so I re-registered as "Bernkastler", my favorite little wine town in the Mosel region!

Ecco Domani is OK but seem to recall it's a Gallo import. There are better PG's available, Tommasi for example, at all of a buck more.

The last ED PG I had tasted strangely of oak! Those Gallo folks know what Americans like or have been told to like.

IK, I did not taste much oak in this one. Maybe just a tiny hint, but nothing like that Yellow Tail chard I posted about earlier.

Perhaps the most beautiful place I have ever been...Bernkastel-Kues. I'd love to get back there and stay in a nice Gasthof for a week or so and drink the local wines with every meal (not to mention the delicious German beer!)

My mother spent the summer in Germany when I was about 18. My mother-in-law goes there every two or three years. My Sister-in-law goes there on business once a year or so, and on vacation.

I studied the language for a year in college... and have read a handful of classic works of German literature, admired German music and film... but I have never been there.

Maybe some day. Until then, all I ask is let me find a few good exported wines from the Mosel region.

It is indeed a beautiful place. And their version of Riesling is the best that grape has to offer IMHO. A story-book kind of setting, like Lorelei, Heidelberg Castle, Neuschwanstein, Rothenburg Am der Tauber, and so many others.

When I was 17, I spent the summer traveling through Germany. best summer of my life. I am planning to return next summer for a few weeks.
