In our mix of daily drinkers, we typically have a few Bonarda from Argentina, as we enjoy the change-of-pace. Bonarda wines can be interesting and unique. This one, from the region of Mendoza, gave a bright garnet color and a grapey nose that also hinted at cranberry. On first pour, it came across as a bit simple, with tart cranberry flavors and ringing acidity. It calmed down after time passed, and the tart fruit gave way to smoother red fruit and some brambly spiciness. Not the best Bonarda we've had, but it worked fine for a Tuesday night glass following dinner. It tasted better about 5 months ago -- not as puckeringly tart. We've got one more, and I'll wait 6 months and see if it's just a phase. 13% alc. We paid $10 locally.
