Decanting gewurztraminer is
a) recommended
b) a mistake
c) a matter of indifference

I'm sure you can get a case for all of the above, but the answer is: no need to.

In fact, decanting most wines is not required, except for older wines and ports.

Actually, the more I think of it, the better I feel it is not to decant aolder wines; it could make them go over the hill right in your decanter bottle.

If you want to avoid sedimnet from older wines, use a cheese cloth through which to pour.

I suppose the wines that could use decanting are the youngest reds that might need exposure to oxygen to open up.

My first thought was why in the world would you want to decant a Gewurzt? You might want to let it breathe in the glass if it is a VT, but why decant?

Vendage Tardive - A late harvest Gewurzt - wonderful stuff. Zind-Humbrecht is famous for them.
