- Hank Matty - 02-15-2000 Decanting gewurztraminer is a) recommended b) a mistake c) a matter of indifference Please educate me. - Thomas - 02-15-2000 I'm sure you can get a case for all of the above, but the answer is: no need to. In fact, decanting most wines is not required, except for older wines and ports. - Thomas - 02-15-2000 Actually, the more I think of it, the better I feel it is not to decant aolder wines; it could make them go over the hill right in your decanter bottle. If you want to avoid sedimnet from older wines, use a cheese cloth through which to pour. I suppose the wines that could use decanting are the youngest reds that might need exposure to oxygen to open up. - Bucko - 02-15-2000 My first thought was why in the world would you want to decant a Gewurzt? You might want to let it breathe in the glass if it is a VT, but why decant? Bucko - Hank Matty - 02-15-2000 What is a VT? - Bucko - 02-15-2000 Vendage Tardive - A late harvest Gewurzt - wonderful stuff. Zind-Humbrecht is famous for them. Bucko |
