Alphonse Mellot & Sons--family in the business since 1513
I met Monsieur Mellot at a wine event in Raleigh last February and saw that he is going to be in USA again this August for a wine event.

Pale straw color--appears pale gold under some lighting. The nose indicated grapefruit dominant over grassy scents. The mouthfeel was a nice tingly sensation on tongue. Sharp acidity was matched by grapefruit, grapeskin, and lemony flavor sensations. Rather long finish. Not a wimpy Sauvignon Blanc. I paired it with stuffed clam and a mixed salad with French dressing for a summer meal.
Purchased about a year ago for $16.

Mellot Sancerre is really good stuff. There is another Mellot -- Joseph -- who also makes an excellent Sauvignon Blanc. I'm not sure if they are brothers or cousins or father and son. But they have competing boutiques/tasting rooms about 50 yards from each other on a tiny little road branching off from the main square in Sancerre. I remember trying wines from both of them, and I remember liking one better than the other ... but I can't recall which one it was for the darned of me. Regardless, they're both excellent producers.

I do enjoy a good Sancerre. And $16 seems to be the market price.

Joey, I double checked and he is listed for the Tanglewood Wine and Food Festival August 23rd in the Berkshires of Massachusetts. Info at http://extranet.bso.org/wine or do a Google search for Tanglewood Wine and Food.
