1997 Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Eileen's birthday was Sunday so popped this beauty. There's something about the '97 vintage that's very special. The elegant concentration of the fruit. Not just big, concentration, in your face but an elegance like a ballerina with a fierce left hook. I opened this wine 5 to 10 years too early. Beautiful cassis and black fruits, oily mouth feel dense but lithe with hints of earthy 'nilla, a touch of chocolate and cherry cordial. Plenty of packed, fine tannins on the midpalate through the long finish. Lovely wine to share with my lovely who turned 45 going on 35. 13.9%Alc/vol. I think I paid $18?
