A few years ago I had a glass of wine for dinner that exactly matched my taste. It was semi dry and had a wonderful peach flavor that made it seem sweeter. Any suggestions for someone new to wine drinking?

Look for Riesling: if German, try Auslese style; if American, look for the words "semi-dry" on the label.

By the way, a few years is way too much time in between glasses of wine...
