Bought the d'Arenberg 1999 McLaren Vale Vintage Declared Shiraz Port last night. WS says best after '06, but it's staring at me just asking to be consumed sooner. Any advice? Wait? Approachable now? Anyone with TNs?

If it's begging to be consumed, "obey your thirst!"

I'm with Drew on that: decant and relish.

But restraint is not one of my stronger virtues.

Dan, I just got some interesting Shirazes at Tower, with very good prices: the 200O Viking Grand for $20; the 2000 Killakoonan Oracle for $25; and the 98 Wood Park Cab Shiraz for $16.

I think that the Viking is a monster that should be kept in its cage until 2010. Some Aussie pals think it is a Great Wine.

I'll try to show some restraint with the Killakoonan. Their Siblings Shiraz Grenache is absolutely yummy, and the price on the Oracle was about $20 off.

Let us know how you and the d'Arry get along.

The d'Arry and I have a date for this weekend -- Suppose I'll let my wife tag along

Thanks for the heads-up on the Tower stuff. I can't wait to pick up that Viking, though waiting will be the hard part.

Had a very nice Oz Tower purchase recently -- the 1999 Mt. Langi Ghiran Billi Billi Creek. Wonderful, good summer fruit, spices, nice alc., and some vanilla lurking in the background. Good acidity -- would have been a great food wine, but drank it as a stand-alone.
