This is my first venture into Zin. Was in a small wine shop (actually Baron's Wine room), that was in an upscale market place. There selection of wines was quite small.
The wine had alot of berrys on the nose, but had pepper and earthy flavors. I had it with hambergur steak and baked potato. I saved some for today to try to see if more flavors came through. But it didn't keep over night.
I looked up some prievious post on this wine. I read a post back in May 2001 that some one said it didn't keep overnight. I found many refferenses to Montevina, but none on the Terra d'oro. Most of the post on the Montevina had the price around $12.00. I paid $23.00 for this bottle. It may have been the small shop in the high rent area. The wine was good while it lasted but not worth the bucks I paid.

Did you recork it and refrigerate it? Most wines will last a second or third day if recorked and refrigerated.

Yes WOW, I Vacuvined it and put it in my wine refridgerator.

IK, thats what I thought reading the prievios post on the Montevina. Have you had any experiense with the Terra d'oro? And does it usually sell for $23.00?
I usually don't buy wines without reading about them first. This was puraly an impulse purchase. I have usually made good choices from the recomendations from The Board.

Tanker -Bub The last Terra I tried was the 97 and it was an exemplary zin. A mystery why this usually reliable supplier didn't perform. 99 was a super vintage so that wasn't it. Could have been a bad bottle. WW

I haven't tried the '99 but I did buy a few of the '97 Terra D'Oro zins, and really enjoyed them. Still have one bottle left, saving it for a 'special occasion' but said occasion had better come quickly or the next good steak here at the Rancho will qualify as a special occasion.
I think I paid in the mid teens for mine, so $23 sounds a little high. I've never tried to keep any of this wine overnight, so can't comment on that. It's always been opened during a dinner party and disappeared soon after it's been opened.
Let me add that Montevina/Terra D'Oro and other big Foothill zins really aren't everyone's cuppa tea. While I'm partial to this style of zinfandel, I have a few friends who just don't like these AT ALL.
