Had this with lunch today with take-out from me favorite Sonmoran Mexican restaurant. Just reaffirms my conviction that Joe Chimpanzee coul;d make super juice from this marvelous old zin vineyard. The perfect jammy, brambly, berriness that I love in zin.Went great with the mesquite broiled shrimp, white fish, lard-free re-fried beans and fat-free cole slaw. So good I lost any intent of scoring. Lovely lunch. WW

Actually, Dusi Ranch is composed of three plots. The original was planted back in the 20's and is farmed by Benito Dusi. Another plot is across 101 and was planted in the 40's, but some of that was pulled up and replanted about twenty years ago. That plot is owned by Benito's brother Dante. The third younger plot nearby is being farmed by their Dante's son Michael, who also does all the work in Dante's plot. Almost all of Benito's fruit goes to Ridge. Tobin James gets Dante's fruit. Generally, Benito's plot is called Dusi Ranch, and Dante's plot is Dusi Vineyard. In Paso Robles terms, Benito's fruit is called Eastside and Dante's is called Westside.

Without a shadow one of the 5 greatest Zins I've experienced was the 1978 Mastantuano Dusi. Was legenday along with the 1978 Buehler Vineyard Cabernet(49 cases). Still salivate whenced bemebering these 2 dudes. WW

Now there's a winery you don't hear about too often. We love his Zins (from Dante's fruit), and his Barbera. Last time we were there Pasquale was telling Judy about how he made furniture for Sammy Davis Jr. and Liberace. Even though I was standing right next to Judy, I could have been in the next county for all the attention Pasquale was paying to me. When we were leaving he gave Judy a bottle of his 25th Anniversary Barbera and signed it with a gold pen. What a character!!

I get the same attention when CB is with me at any of the vineyars. Guess we're both chopped liver! WW
