I noted, in a bottle of Hartford Russian River Cuvee '00, a flavor that reminded me of lanolin or that distinctive smell that shoe polish has when the tin is first opened. I'd usually found this in Cabs and was wonedring if anyone else has noted it and, if so, do you have any other descriptors for it? When I mention lanolin, people usually stare at me blankly. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you are talking about VA. I get a Johnson's floor wax smell...

Yep--shoe polish, floor wax, nail polish--all not good indicators for longevity for and of wine.

I find the nail polish descriptor to be a precurssor of a bad drinking experience. WW
