Last night with pizza and minestrone; popped & poured without breathing or decanting; big mistake! Lifeless to the last drop. Will decant the second bottle 3-4 hours. 14% alc/vol and $19.99 at Costco.

Hate it when that happens to a 20 buck wine!

Yeah, same here, IK. Too much good stuff out there at half the price.

Hotwine,

Have you had this wine before? It could be the wine and not the time that's at fault.

Foodster, I've not had this wine before. Not sure what's going on here. Can't tell from the label just what's inside.

IGT is a catch-all. It means "typical for the region," and that can mean a lot of things, but one thing it isn't is a DOC wine.

This particular wine is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

2004 was a generally good year, but IGT wines haven't much in the way of rules for consumers to follow.

Thanks, Thomas, that's kind of what I thought must be in the blend.

Looking back over my previous notes on IGT wines, there seem to have been as many "misses" as "hits", reason enough to pass on them in future in lieu of solid intel.

Yep, I've had my share of IGT misses and hits, too. But I guess the same can be said for all wines and all regions.

My motto: taste first or forever hold your tongue

That's the same thing you told me Foodster but without the "taste first" part. Happy holidays bubba! WW
