Picked up some pork loin at Costco last week, and grabbed a couple of bottles of this, since we rarely have any PN/burgs in the cellar. Poured an hour before dinner and allowed to sit quietly while she prepared din-din of green beans almondine, asparagus, new spuds and loin fillets (pork was seared on both sides in OO, then covered with 4 cups of sliced apples, a half cup of brown sugar and 4 Tbsp of maple syrup and simmered on low heat for 35 minutes).

The wine offered a mixed berry nose and more on the palate with none standing out; the French oak in which it was aged for a year was noticeable but not overbearing at all. 13.8% alc/vol and about $10 at Costco (hate it when I throw away the receipt before logging into the database!) A wonderful pairing.

She pulled the recipe from a fairly recent issue of Southern Living magazine, the only periodical we don't recycle immediately after (her) reading.

That pork loin recipe sounds great HW. I'll have to try that one.

We had IK's Venisualin Barbeque Pork today. I use pork loin with that. I even had one of my wifes nieses son came to me and said the pork loin was great.

Correction to the pork loin recipe: only 3 Tbsp maple syrup required, not four. And the source was one of her old Southern Living cookbooks (she's got a whole shelf of 'em). And the recipe is really for four pork chops, but she used it for four pork loin fillets.

What else did I screw up? Cooking time? Brown sugar quantity? What year is this? Sheesh.....

So far I've probably tried about a dozen PNs. The Kenwood has been among my favorites, so far. Since you mentioned throwing out the receipt, here is what is costs in Minnesota. I've seen it at Sam's Club and on special elsewhere for just under $13. I've seen it as high as $17 when not on special.
