$40 at winery.
This was very well-made. Raspberries, spice, silky texture... But, there was definitely some oak influence that felt misplaced here.
I don't know... It was nice wine, but left me feeling luke-warm. Not how I'd like to feel for $40.
(I'm burning through some of my California stash this month. See Zin threads! When I leave St Louis next month, my Caliphile father won't be around to share, so I'm opening 'em up!)

The eminent Walter Schug was on the panel at a session I attended in Charlotte--Pinot Noir, the Heart Breaker Grape. I will post my notes later--maybe right after work today.
Where are you headed when you leave St. Louis?

Columbia, MO for my wife to attend med school.

I enjoyed the low-key tasting room at Schug quite a bit. My father has been a fan of their wines for some time.

VouvrayHead, I was just there on Saturday, must have just missed you. Schug Winery is pretty low-key, but very nice and homely. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I know Axel Schug well, and he's always been a fan of keeping his wines at a reasonable price. We all enjoyed his Sonoma Cabernet a lot, and did a barrel tasting of the 07 or 08 Anniversary Heritage Reserve out of the barrel. The last one I had was the 03 and it was very nice.
