Uncorked this baby tonight with some trepidation, but definitely not fear, which I'm trying to avoid. Seems that Mother picked it up down in Boston sometime in the early '90s right after we'd popped an earlier interation. She complained a little that she had to lay out around $25.00 for it, but was happy that it fell within her per diem.

At any rate we carefully decanted it tonight, and threw a steak on the grillpan just as WW called. We had a very nice conversation about a lot of things, even though I had to turn the steak, take it off, and put it in a warming oven, all the while talking on a wired phone.

The twelve year old Pom from a 2d or 3d tier, was fantastic. Fruit and cassis still on the nose and upfront. Layer after layer of earthy complexity accompanied by a strong presence of muted tannin across the palate, and a delightfully lingering finish. One of life's great experiances. Only wish that more of our citizens could experience something like this, instead of laying out megabucks for something that has just started and sloshing it down at the first opportunity.

Notice that Pops has a '98 for about the same price. Might just get them to add it to my current backorder.
