Not sure what the difference was between this and the othe second wine, No. 2 de Ch Lafon-Rochet.

hm....guess not too much... Although, it may not have been as big a wine...then again, it could be bottle variations that I've already noticed with the No. 2.

Very dark purple with a dense nose of blackfruit and pepper with some old wood still. Reserved fruit on the mouth and just plain dense in flavors. Black fruit, cassis, pepper, and old wood with tannins receding. Nicely complex.

Engineer,

I want to applaud you for your wide wine interests. Seems to me your notes show up in almost all categories here--that's nice.

Hey Foodie, THANKS! That's really means a lot coming from you!!

As you may remember, when I first started posting about a year and a bits ago as a complete Newbie (versus a novice newbie), I really wanted to learn about wine so I started browsing here. Great bunch of regulars and moderators! Got some advice to the message that I should try them from everywhere, all vintages (good or bad), and at all points in their development.

I've been keeping to that since (and most likely will be learning for the rest of my life!)

Thanks again Foodie!!

as it so happens, i had a bottle of the 96 Ch. Lafon Rochet last night with dinner. it was a spectacular wine, but unfortunately i didn't take notes. the nose was very good, but in the mouth is where this wine took off like a rocket. seriously concentrated bordeaux flavors that just came at you in wave after wave as the finish went on for a minute. the best bordeaux with some age on it that i've tasted so far (and that's only out of about 20 or so older bottlings). and this one will hold up a while yet, i'd guess. 93 points.

Anyone remember the price of this one? Also, newsguy, do you know if it is available at the Tarpon store?

bern: B-21 has futures on the '03 lafon rochet listed @ $29.99. the bottle i drank was 10 years from the vintage. so grab those futures if you have a lot of patience and good long-term storage. the wine that i had last night would be a seriosu steal at that price.

Newsguy, so you liked the first bottling of Lafon-Rochet. I wish I had one to try out too. Found out tonight that the Numero 2 is the second wine and the Secrets is the third wine. From what I remember of the No. 2 is was a bigger wine with a bit better complexity, that was what was missing from the 3rd wine. I can only imaging what the first wine one was like.

BTW, Numero 2 was selling at $29.99 and Secrets was selling at $26.99 recently at my local pusher. Wish I had picked up a few more of the Numero 2.
