1999 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Les Criots

Medium gold color, full clarity. Vanillin oak on the nose. Citrus fruit, pineapple and white melon accent mid-palate. Also a little of the buttered popcorn near the finish. Nice mouthfeel, slight chewiness. Better the second day--less oaky and buttery. Better food match. (I had it with tortellini in pesto sauce the second day and plan to finish it tonight with tortilla chicken/ranch dressing wrap).
Well made, satisfying but doesn't grab me as much as some white Burgundies I've experienced, including Fichet's 1999 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts. I keep trying to find a Meursault I really like, but my favorite to date remains a village Meursault from Alex Gambal (1999). One sniff of the aroma and I was saying that this to me was a characteristic French Chardonnay--what I would expect and hope for from a white Burgundy.
