Any suggestions on what wine to buy that enhances an Easter family meal of a honey baked ham with sides of cheddar mashed potatoes and asparagus.

Welcome to the board, Kat.

I would normally prefer a German Riesling, one from the Mosel region, with an Easter ham. But the "honey-baked" aspect can be a problem ...... too sweet for pairing with even a wine with some residual sugar, such as a Riesling Spatlese or Auslese. Look for an Auslese, and serve it only slightly chilled (15-20 minutes in the fridge).

Sorry, I'm new to this...Would that be a white Auslese or a red. We are also having a very sweet lemon/strawberry square dessert. Would that wine also fit with the dessert?

Kat,

Rieslings only come in white.

Thank you, that's helpful. Is there a particular year/region I should look for when buying? What would you buy?

Lots of good 2001 Riesling Spatlese on the market right now. JJ Prum, Reinhold Haart, Selbach-Oster, and Willi Haag are just a few of the good houses.

Kat, we're talking the Mosel-Sahr-Ruwer region of Germany.
