Pulled one out last night and methinks they're at the top of their game. Slight bricking noticed with an ever so slight sherry nose introduced. Silky and smooth as WW's one liners with a long finish. Delightful. Still have a box left.

Drew, if I were you I'd schedule regular openings of this wine--you'd be surprised how that ever so slight sherry nose can evolve into something quite the opposite, quite quickly.

Do you mean that in a positive or negative way?

foodie & drew,

you two have me worried. i have one bottle of the 94 left and have been saving to open in may 2004 for our 10-year wedding anniversary celebration (we were married in 94 in california, so drink a 94 cali cab on our anniversary, get it)

so am i now to think this baby might not make it til 5/04?

If it doesn't you have to quit storing your juice in the oven. Drew, what did the cork look like on your bottle? Was it clean or was there a significant leakage problem? I'll pull another tonight. This sucker should be on the Olympic Marathon team according to my tasting notes. WW

Drew, I suppose you now know what I meant--there should be no sherry in the nose yet, if there is it might mean problems soon.

Well guys I opened a bottle last nite and found none of the aging problems you mentioned Drew-boo.Tho close to the top of its' game, this bottling, IMHO, has another 1-2 to peaking and should hold another 7-10 after. My absolute favorite of the 3 Vineyard-designated Gallos' and at the front of the P/Q parade each vintage. There was absolutely no penetration of the wine on the cork and the Gallo Bros actually personally signed the cork for Moi' . As usual at this time my only regret was not buying enuf. WW

The cork was only stained on the wine side with no penetration. I've opened a couple over the past year, not posted on, and experienced the same. These were purchased in a sealed case which was stored in the back room of a wine store storage area...I'm chalking it up to bad storage prior to purchase.

Opened my last bottle stored at home,(still have 2 at the Ocean). This one was the best yet. This bottle had thrown very little sediment and was quite youthful with enough fine grained tannins on the 40 second finish to conclude that some, with good storage, can go 15 or so years. Sweet currant and dark plum flavors with hints of brown sugar and baking vanilla. very nice surprise as I opened it thinking it might be on the big downslide. Served it with spit roasted chicken that had slight caramelization of the skin and black beans and rice. Sounds like an odd pairing but was wonderful.

Popped another of these beauties last night. Throwing lots of sediment, as have the others. This one showed just a barely hint of orange in the color, it's whiskers if you would. Still same flavor profile and still an abundance of fine tannins...lovely bottle.
