Was sure I'd posted on this hummer before but after going back thru 03 and not finding it finally decided to chalk up another one for the ole' "Memory Degridation". As usual, this is another in a long line of terrific Napa bottlings. Brite medium ruby, nose of high red ftuits, spices and vanilla. Solid entry, weighty center and a 4 lapper finish. Needs another 4-6 to resolve the solid core of polished tannins. 90/90. 41 by the box. 13.8% alc. WW

I've seen the reference in many posts and I'm curious as to what "by the box" refers to in the ratings. I'm still patting myself on the back for getting the "lapper" reference right, even the upper palate part, but I'm just not picking up on the by the box deal. And...many thanks to all of you who reply to questions from nitwits like me, I've learned tons just reading the assorted posts, maybe soon I can upgrade from winophite to just plain ole wino! Thanks for your patients and dedication to the industry. wp

By the box means by the case. Usually by the case prices are less than by the bottle. Therefore when ww gives the price by the box he means you will have to pay more just to pick up a bottle or two.

You seem to be gaining ground fast there WP and, hopefully, you'll give back to some newly convert to the fun of wine. There's not any connection to the descriptive adjective "nitwit" and anyone who's pursuing info on the wonders of the grape. Keep-On-Keepin'-On. WW

Opened aanother for lunch yesterday to share with my grandson. Starting to flesh out swimmingly. Nose with more definative red fruits, and the palate adding a touch of earthiness. Still needs time. No change in scoring. WW
