Picked up a couple of bottles today and decided to have one tonight with beef stew. Lots of berry fruit on the nose and palate with cedar rolling in and a distinct note of Malbec; moderate finish, 13% ABV. The blend isn't mentioned on the labels, but the Hess Collection Website says the 2000 was made with 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot,
4% Malbec, 4% Petite Syrah. I'm no WW-style wino-phile when it comes to Cali Cabs, but IMHO this blend is dumbed-down; it ain't one that I'm gonna rush out and grab a case of. The Speculator gave it an 87, but that's a bit generous in my book.

I popped one last night and thunk it DELCIOUIOUS. Very full and round, not too complex, but very nice berry and cedar with a hint of cocoa. Had it with coarse pepper crusted grilled beast .

This was the red wine at my nephew's prenuptial dinner. Quite serviceble with the beef dish. I had suggested it as a compromise in price and quality (not too expensive but not plonk).

What kind of "beast" was that, Drew?

One of my favorites. Hotsie, what's the difference in cut between N.Y. strip steak and Kansas City strip steak?

What's that reference, Foodie? From a song or an ad?

NEW YORK STEAK

Found the below statement on the net.
DRew

New York Steak, New York Strip, Delmonico Steak, Kansas City Steak, Kansas City Strip, shell steak, sirloin club steak, strip steak. These are all different steaks, but each steak is referred to by each of these names in different regions. The names depend on where you live.
