Had at Capital Grille in Kansas City with filet mignon with porcini rub and reduced balsamic vinaigrette and chive-flavored mashed potatoes.
The wine was a very dark red purple (almost black) in the dim lighting. It was viscous in texture with black currants on the nose. I found some not-so-subtle gritty tannins along with plenty of fruit stuffing. Seems promising for future development. A little peppery burn on the finish.

I think the Oakville line is better than his other higher priced offerings...looks like you had a nice time in the ol' midwest.

Having lived and worked in KC I spent meeny fun times at the old Capital. Another favorite was Putzkies(sp?). The memorys' the 2nd thing to go. Had to digress so I could remember rhe Plaza. WW The 94 unfiltered I posted was an Oakville

Our hotel (Fairmont, formerly the Ritz-Carlton, formerly Alameda on the Plaza) overlooked the Country Club Plaza. I guess they needed to fill some rooms because they agreed to accept our conference at the Government per diem of $88 a night (normally much higher room rates). Lots of chandeliers, and generally very good food and service during our break times, and special functions (Tuesday night ice breaker in the rooftop ballroom, Wednesday awards luncheon in the same location, several lunches on our own in the Oak Room Restaurant). We agreed that we could get used to such pampering. Good conference and good accommodations. (On Wednesday I dined with a group at Grand Street Cafe--also a pleasant dinner. They have patio dining when the weather is a little warmer.)
