I'm looking for a wine for a friend that just got married. A few of us would like to purchase a bottle of wine that would mature in 5 years (it will be for opening at their 5th anniversary, incentive to stay together!). Additionally, I would like it to be early 90's late 80's, cost between 100-125. I'm thinking red, French, but am not stuck on either. I'm looking for recommendations and not sure where to turn. Does anyone have any thoughts?

1990 was the best year for Upper Rhones in decades. Therefore since we have a preference for these, we recommend a 1990 M. Chapoutier, Cote Rotie, "La Mordoree." There is one available at www.wine-searcher.com for $177.00.

Another suggestion would be to go back one more year (1989) and down the Rhone to Chateauneuf-du-Pape for the 1989 Beaucastel (Red), a truly great wine that will still be drinking well 20 years hence!

Unfortunately, I don't have a current quote on the price.

Cheers,

Being a devoted Calif-i-phile I`ll give you a domestic wine that meets your parameters.Either a 94 ( pref ) or 95 Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet.Luscious now and will age as long as you keep it properly.Plus the added bonus, they`ll probably be able to pronounce the name. Winoweenie

Everyone can pronounce the name "Winoweenie" but I agree there are some fabulous California, Washington and Oregon wines for that kind of money.
