Noticed an ad for this outfit in the latest issue of Wine Enthusiast. Their Website is www.buythevine.net. Is anybody familiar with this company?

Never heard of them. It looks like they want you to invest in an overcropped, yet to be planted vineyard in Temecula. Their data is a bit suspect, because they cite statistics that indicate grape prices are higher than ever and destined to go higher. That's not so according to 2001 harvest reports. There was a glut of grapes and all the new vineyards haven't yet come into production. My daughter knows of a family who left the fruit on the vines of a 54 acre vineyard last year, because the potential income wasn't worth the expense of harvesting. This is an "opportunity" I'd be suspect of, but if the investment isn't too great, wouldn't it be a kick to be a vineyard owner - sort of. There will be an awful lot of co-owners if they're going to plant 600 to 800 acres.

Although the wineries played it down, there was plenty of evidence of the ravages of Pierce's Disease in Temecula Vineyards when we visited this past February.

I've seen the ad and then realized what the ex-Enron Exexs' were up to. WW

the best way to lose your money is to give it to a great vineyard opportunity!
