Very nice. Med deep ruby. Nose was full of flowers, spices and red fruits.Nice entry, solid center and a 3&3/4 lapper finish. Didn't noticwe the alc at all. Had with grilled bay scallops(using the same cooking technique as for shrimp) and fresh spinich/w Italian tomatoes. Nice stuff. 88/92 (In package) 15.2% alc. WW

We do enjoy the Tobin James wines. Not earth shaking but very solid efforts. The prices for the James Gang shipments is a definite plus, also.

We popped the '04 last Saturday at a dinner with friends. I explained that there were three vinyards in the Paso area that grew the Primitivo clone and that this was a blend from two of them. Also explained that at least one of these also grows Lagrein, Refosco, and Sangiovese. Also exlained that TJ bottles one or two of these every year. Also explained that TJ did not have to label this Primitivo as a marketing ploy because they bottle and sell out a whole string of Zins every year, and have a fine reputation for same.

One of the lady guests took a sip and said, "Tastes like Zinfandel." Sigh!

We popped our '05 tonight, and it was all ww said it was, and perhaps even smoother a year later.

We shared it with a house guest, and enjoyed smoked and sauced St Louis ribs, Bev's potato salad, and her cole slaw leftover from an event last night.

We were looking for a lighter Zin than one of TJs, and this one served the purpose well.

Popped the '08 tonight. The full name is: 2008 Tobin James, James Gang Reserve, Paso Robles , Primitivo. It weighs in at 16.2 alcohol, and the list price was $38, but of course if came with the fall 2010 club shipment.

We matched it tonight with lamb loin chop grilled over charcoal and pecan chips. They were accompanied by rice cooked in chicken/turkey stock, and sliced tomatoes (close to last) from our garden. I'm sipping the last from me glass right now!

Popped the '09 last night. No real change in description except alky is down to 15.8%. Still very high. Quite a bit more wine than the cheepy from Trader Joe's. We matched it with loin ends Teriyaki grilled over charcoal and wild cheery chips, baked Yukon Gold's, and salad. Yum!

We drank the 2010 over two nights. The alcohol is down to $14.5%, and in near perfect balance is actually an easy drinker. We enjoyed it with pasta in fresh tomato sauce and broiled Italian sausages, and the second night with smoked St Louis ribs in BBQ sauce. Yum!
