Dunno about that gizmo, but I use little combination temp/humidity gauges from Radio Shack.... battery-powered, slimmer than a pack of smokes, model 63-1033. I've got three of 'em, one for the cellar and one for each of two coolers. Couldn't do without 'em. They're great little sanity checkers on what the units' thermostats are tellin' me. Cost somewhere around $25 each.

Optimum storage temperature is the same for both whites & reds: 55-57F, with humidity in the range of 60-70%. The stated temperature range allows graceful aging and the stated humidity range prevents drying of the cork without encouraging the formation of mold and shedding of the labels (which will happen if humidity reaches 90%). But very few whites need any bottle age, while most reds improve with at least some. You can learn more on the subject in such references as "The Larousse Encyclopedia of Wine" and the "Oxford Comapanion to Wine".
