Well my combined Father's Day, Anniversary, Birthday, and Christmas present arrived today and is installed, pant pant, and stocked. It is a 98 bottle rack custom made for our "space" in our naturally climate controlled cellar. It is individually compartmentized steel wire, cherry racked, and aluminum fronted. It is 7 spaces wide by 14 high, and holds oversized bottles, e.g. Champagne, easily. Does not hold those slim 375 ml dessert wines, but there is a shelf above for those.<P>Got it from Kedco on Long Island, the company founded by an old friend Lou Windt who passed away around ten years ago. His son Ken, runs it now (1-800-654-9988) and is most accomodating. It cost $365 to put it together, and another $65 to ship it up here.<P>Put my "lay down" stuff on the bottom three rows starting with the Bruenello for '13, and ending up with those to be drunk this year. Above these right now are vertical rows of pinot grigio, other whites, pinot, other California red, Italian red, French red, and "other" reds. <P>Still have my old racking in reserve that can handle another four cases. At least now, I don't have to keep a lot of stuff upside down in their shipping containers.

Well it is just about as hot as it gets around here today, well into the nineties. Am sitting here in the second floor family room where the puter is, sweating like a pig just trying to communicate with y'all. It is 63 degrees in my cellar. Love this place.<P>Incidentally down to a manageable number of SWs, nine or ten. Company's gone.

IK, that is pretty unusual up your way, no? I imagine most people do not have air-conditioning, just like us Seattlites.

Usually happens for a week or so every year. When we get a huge Bermuda High off shore, and a large low pressure system trying to move east, the countervailing winds suck up whatever is in the Gulf of Mexico, and drop it off here. The good news is that even when it's ninety during the day, it goes down to the the mid-fifties at night. So, all we need is an exhaust fan in the window to get the hot stuff out. Never had a problem during the twelve years we ran a B&B here, and through it all, the cellar stays cool.

Boyoboy, what I wouldn't give for those conditions! We were at 98 today, and our low tonight will be about 80. Still, it's not as bad as last year, when we had several days of 100 or more by early August.

120 degrees with 3% humidity ain't nearly as bad as 100 with 70%, WW. We feel like we're stewin' in our own juices.

Gil, you could move up here and run a free range venison farm. The only caveat is you have to live within a mile of the coast to experiance our climate. It changes abruptly further inland. Much hotter in the summer and colder with more snow in the winter. We have a new winery (more about that later) with two B&B rooms, and lovely gardens that you could stay at, if not here, while you check things out.

Well, the heat wave of century (hopefully) has come and gone. The highest temperature in the cellar got up to 69 degrees. Have to admit we were concerned (don't worry about anything anymore). Now it has backed down slowly to 64 degrees. It should stay in the low sixties until winter when it will drop into the high fifties.
